BREAKS: FEBRUARY

TUNE OF THE MONTH:
Peo De Pitte
Who Do You Love? (U&A Recordings)

As predicted by Mixmag on hearing his Marcus Rombo ‘Bringing’ remix, it was only a matter of time before Peo De Pitte became an international star. Now he has over 10,000 likes on Facebook. ‘Who Do You Love?’ is a new breed of awesome and will surely launch him onto another level. Chirpy, fidgety and exciting, the bassline is just perfect. Well done, Peo!

Plump DJs
Gobstopper (Grand Hotel)

Long-time fans might say they’re going through a dark patch, but at least they’re trying something new. ‘Gobstopper’ is a perfect example of this, and it’s like nothing heard before. You never know what direction it’s going to take: rough Jungle beats, then bouncy electro then nasty bass music. Whatever, it’s exciting.

Slynk
Monkey Breaks EP (Grits n Gravy)

For those not familiar with the Slynk sound, the boy has got funk – and bags of it. This four-tracker includes ‘Monkey Magic’ which sees him rework the theme tune to the 70s TV show Monkey into a funky monster. On the remix, label boss Philly Blunt turns it into an electro banger.

Under This
Here We Go Again/ Flashback (iBreaks)

Founded in 2003, Under This are a Latvian act who have produced two rolling tracks laced with old-skool samples and solid hooks as a part of their ‘Ruff Stuff’ series. The young Eastern producers are carving out a reputation for causing real dancefloor destruction, and tunes like this are why.

Steve Maccabe & System 2
Odyssey (Diablo Loco)

Multicultural beats exchange
Diablo Loco is a new label focused on tech-breaks and electro. With notoriety growing with every release, Steve Maccabe & System 2 drop another killer. British tech dudes Frogs In Socks take a more stripped-back approach on the remix. The Spanish pirate Bl1tz and Russian maestro Tom Clyde keep it strictly breaks.

Kid Kenobi
Bass Music EP (Klub Kids)

Klub Kids head honcho Kid Kenobi has never been one to settle on a genre or a sound – other than that it must sit under a bass-heavy umbrella. This four-track EP is testament to that. It’s a new genre, kids: bassline-rave-moombah-dub-house! And we like it. A lot.

Audrey Napoleon
Group Games (Death Proof Recordings)

Death Proof Recordings offers us another fresh producer, LA’s Audrey Napoleon. Despite being relatively new to the scene she has recently remixed D Ramirez on Toolroom. We take great pleasure in introducing her latest work, the rolling, twitching ‘Group Games’. It comes with great remixes too, by Benjamin Vial and again, Frogs In Socks.

DJ Love
Love Is Love (Air)

When it comes to Da Fonk, you really can do
no better than Ali B’s Air Recordings. Texan scratch supremo DJ Love is all about the carefully selected, skilfully crafted funk beats, and his new album is a perfect party mood setter. On the remix is Pimpsoul, QDUP Foundation and Kool Hertz.

Bitches And Nike Shoes
Brand New Flavour (Subtribe Records)

This latest release from the Ukrainian newcomers Bitches And Nike Shoes on Subtribe sounds as though they’ve set a drunk, angry teenager loose in a studio with a microphone. This kind of shoutiness has very limited appeal for most dancefloors, so turn it off already! Jeez…
