The Met Bar in London became the celebrity hang-out when it first opened at The Metropolitan Hotel in 1997. In the last 15 years, the Gallaghers and Blur members may have grown up and moved on but so too has the bar.
"It's been through a midlife crisis" jokes manager Tadgh Ryan, when Mixmag stopped by to check out the bars Accoustic Mix; a thrice weekly showcase of contemporary tunes, stripped down by up-and-coming London musicians.
What The Met now lacks in tabloid fodder and paps at the door it more than makes up for with its incredible cocktail menu which Mixmag was more than happy to indulge in.
With the menu split into drinks for the adventurous, old favourites and The Met's own signature cocktails there was plenty to choose from - or, if like us, you want to go off piste, accomplished mixologist Tim was quick to make suggestions based on our tastes and mood.
Highlights included Root Down from the adventurous menu which featured Beetroot, Chase Vodka and Falernum as well as Green Park Frost, which contained a homemade basil and celery syrup, Lavender Maraschino Martino Bianco and Plymouth Gin. Although not cheap (the latter was £14) these are exemplary cocktails and were some of the best I've ever had.
‘Acoustic Mix’ sessions will run Tuesday to Thursday 6.30 – 9pm offering quality live music sets from the capital’s emerging new talent.
