This weekend Sensation unveiled its brand new show to a crowd of 50,000 in the Amsterdam Arena. And Mixmag was there, white trousers and all.
Sensation have been holding events around the world since the first in 2000. The arena-scaled events, with their distinctive all-white dress-code tour over 20 countries. But the Amsterdam shows are unique; they’re where the first event was held and where each year’s new concept is first unveiled.
Sensation’s latest theme is ‘Source Of Light’. The show’s center piece is a gargantuan spherical lighting rig, inside which is the spinning DJ booth. Four huge faces hang from the ceilings over which digital faces of the DJs are projected. Throughout the night, to the soundtracks of DJs like Dennis Ferrer, Mark Knight and Riva Starr, death defying stunts, set-pieces and incredible light shows make Sensation a spectacle with no equal. It’s a Cirque Du Soleil for clubbers.
The Source Of Light show will now begin its world tour. For the first time ever Sensation will go to the US in October. Duncan Stutterheim, CEO of Sensation told Mixmag “A sonic revolution is happening in America and the time is now. For us New York was a perfect fit.”
By 6am, as Hardwell closed the show, daylight began to shine through the Arena’s glass roof, lighting up the 50,000 strong crowd looking a little less white than they started but gleaming from an incredible night. For more incredible pics see Sensation's gallery.
