DAY ONE FESTIVAL MADRID

New Years Day 2012, and while most of us are crying into our Alka Seltzers desperately trying to recover from the celebrations of the night before, the party is only just starting in Madrid as 10,000 Spanish revelers swarm on Real Madrid’s basketball stadium, Palacio De Vistalegre for a day of the biggest techno names in the business.

Day One Festival kicked off the year in 2011 and after a massive success is back for its second edition.

MADRID

Amassing everyone from Richie Hawtin, Marco Corola, Loco Dice and Luciano under one enormodome, this is the thing of techno fiend’s wet dreams.

Kicking things off with Argentinean producer, Guti is a surefire way to get any party started and today is no exception. Guti’s beaming smile gives away an insatiable appetite for the two most important things of the day, party and music.

The Argentinean was a virtuoso jazz pianist and touring rock musician before becoming a stadium filling Latino influenced techno producer and that sense of eclecticism is on show in Guti’s stellar track selection today.

While Guti gets the stadium up and dancing, it’s not till another man of South American heritage arrives that pandemonium truly descends on the audience.

Luciano has a knack for eliciting a strong crowd reaction and today is no different.

Through a series of hypnotizing rhythms, bumping kick drums, cheeky grins and knowing fist pumps, Luciano puts the crowd on a one-way track to unadulterated party mode.

A quick pit stop to sample the culinary delights of the Palacio De Vistalegre’s hot dog stand fills the gap before Marco Carola and Loco Dice take to the decks for a four hour back to back set.

Taking things up a notch once again, things get serious as two of the safest and most progressive minds in the business put their heads together for an almost faultless peak time set.

With such a high caliber throughout the day, there’s only one man to finish the job.

Hawtin

Richie Hawtin is arguably one of the biggest and most important DJ’s off all time and has played a pivotal role in taking minimal techno to the stadiums it fills today.

His faultless blend of driven minimal techno and mind-bending visuals has the crowd engrossed from the front row right up to the nose bleed seats at the back, once again proving proving that when it comes to techno of a minimal bent, he’s still the man with the Midas touch.
