Animal Collective, Brian Wilson, Vampire Weekend and Grizzly Bear are some of the touchstones of this many-headed Norwegian collective, and Beach Boys harmonies, tripped-out melodies and warm, analogue synths characterise the sunny electronic pop of ‘Between Places’. A steady digital hum heralds the opening bars of ‘Footprints’ before it settles into an exotic waltz of fuzzy guitars, celestial vocals and tropicalia rhythms; ‘Fog Of War’ pits throbbing, trancey synths with Afropop while the epic ‘Through The Turnstiles’ lashes Pet Sounds-style vocal arrangements to shimmering electro psyche-pop. A charming, optimistic LP, delivered with a smile.
