Bit of an office splitter this one, and really it comes down to what you think these kind of mixes should do. Does it give us an insight into the influences of the band who put it together? To an extent – Foals’ angular, Afro-influenced indie certainly owes something to the tunes of the first ‘side’ of this mix. Does it unearth any obscurities to educate and surprise? A few, perhaps, but the second side in particular is pretty much a cheerful, well-mixed collection of big tunes from the past year or so, with bangers from the likes of Julio Bashmore, Justin Martin, Caribou and Art Department. Is it a fun, well-selected mix to throw on at a party and dance to? Yes. And, sometimes, that’s enough.
