If Tom Moulton had only ever produced the utterly sublime 14-minute mix of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ ‘The Love I Lost’ featured here, he would still be a god among men. But he did a whole lot more than that: this is the man who gave disco a touch of hedonistic class, who turned everything he touched into lavish, sumptuous epics you never want to end. Well, nearly everything. In four CDs of swooning strings, emoting vocalists and gleaming hi-hats its inevitable you’ll find un peu de fromage... but what you gonna do? It’s disco! There are enough high points on this album to make it as essential it’s possible to get.
