It’s not even a decade since folktronica became A Thing, and against the odds loads of the key acts remain active, still combining archaic melodies with fresh production nous and still making great music. CocoRosie, The Memory Band and Colleen all have great albums out this summer, and now here are Tunng with their fifth LP, recorded in London, Dorset and Iceland. ‘Turbines’ has them sounding more like a band and less like a studio project, but around their psychedelic boy-girl harmonies, circling guitar lines and insidiously weird lyrics, there are still plenty of analogue gurgles and swoops and strange, dubwise production finesse. No longer tied to any scene, they’re simply one of our best bands.
