When Tobin Prinz and Suzi Horn supported LCD Soundsystem in 2008, the audience didn’t get it. It’s easy to see why. This is uncompromising, skeletal rock with a dancey edge. For much of ‘Clay Class’s inception, Prinzhorn Dance School had the spectre of DFA shutting up shop over them. Hunger (literally) drove them on. “Got off the treadmill ... Got on the breadline,” Prinz chants atop the intense groove of ‘Seed, Crop, Harvest’. It can be difficult listening, but stick with Prinz’s half-spoken vocals and Horn’s snaking basslines, and your reward is an album of raw, rhythmic energy.
