Far up in space, somewhere near the asteroid belt, float Peaking Lights. Partners in music and in life – they have a son – Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis have journeyed skywards from their Wisconsin home on a rocket fuelled by electronic dub, krautrock and Balearica. If it sounds a touch retro, it is: there’s a hint of the Ibiza beach massage about it. But rather than descending into clichéd trippyisms, it grabs your attention with its trancey, cannabinoid rhythms; on ‘Beautiful Son’, Coyes and Dunin mix up early Spiritualized with wobbly pop, while ‘Live Love’ is part crunching alt-disco, part Indonesian gamelan. At its heart is a deep groove starred with synth pulses and good vibes.
