Mungolian Jetset’s Knut Saevik and Paul ‘Strangefruit’ Nyhus are fond of ornate costumes and spinning fantastical tales in their music and, like The Orb or KLF, enjoy dunking it in irony. Like 2009’s ‘We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back’, ‘Mungodelics’ is a collection of original tracks and much amended ‘remixes’. Their take on Jaga Jazzist’s ‘Toccata’ mixes the original’s Steve Reich-style arpeggios with Tibetan singing bowls and shimmering Balearic guitars, while ‘Smells Like Gasoline’ is an irresistible spacey disco assault, all elephantine synth stabs, dubby percussion and whooshing psychedelics. An album of magic and wonder from the mystical mavericks of Norwegian disco.

File under Disco, prog rock, Balearica, house and jazz, shot into hyperspace
