Following on from 09’s ‘Nightlong’ and brief stints on Freak n’ Chic and Wolf + Lamb, ‘New Moon’ is Maayan Nidam’s sophomore artist album. Comprised of 11 varied tracks that align with Cadenza’s usual blueprint, the Berlin-based producer weaves off-kilter tech-house through a hypnotic fusion of world music influences. An engaging start led by the trip-hop shuffle of ‘On My Street’ and the aptly titled ‘Harmonious Funk’ is cut short by an inoffensive yet characterless mid-section. The early promise is eventually restored with a jazzy rinse-down formed from ‘Sunday Sunday’ and ‘Lies In Love’, before the drone techno of ‘Boastful’ and the main-room anthems ‘Last Moon’ and ‘Never Forever’ cement a strong close.
