Ital’s debut for Planet Mu is an adventure through the sounds found between sunset and sunrise. The 28-year-old American producer begins ‘Hive Mind’ as if day were turning to night, the chugging house of ‘Doesn’t Matter (If You Love Him)’ setting the tone perfectly with a fat, rubberised bassline and stargazing synths. Things get dark with ‘Floridian Void’, a mind-expanding 10-minute techno trip-out, while the beatless ‘Privacy Settings’ reaches the far limits of electronic psychedelia. Dancefloor explorers fear not, as ‘Israel’ welcomes the first light of dawn with percussion-heavy old-skool house vibes and finisher ‘First Wave’ lays on a lush feeling of Balearic warmth. A welcome 40-minute excursion indeed.
