Listening to Holy Other is an immersive experience. Drop the needle on ‘Held’ and let yourself be lulled into an insoluble state where nothing but the intense throb of dark age disco can be felt. Nine spellbinding slow jams are included on the Manchester producer’s debut, each one an all consuming entity that packs a near-physical presence. Just check ‘In Difference’ or ‘Held’ for proof. Powerful currents of bass undulate around percussive loops that flicker and thump, while yearning vocal calls and soft glimmers of melody glide in and out of focus. The effect is one of hypnosis and seduction, a type of black magic boogie that acts as the perfect catalyst for moments of intense intimacy.
