LA’s 100% Silk has conquered the blogosphere and the hipster press, and this debut LP should boost it even further. The work of Mike Norris, who can also be seen playing keyboards live with La Roux, ‘Kingdoms’ is a finely crafted ode to house that stomps magnificently around a set of cheeky retro reference points. But Norris isn’t a cheap imitator. His tracks are lush and sumptuous, and laced with just the right amount of analogue hiss. From the energising body music of ‘Jack Rollin’ to the deep romance of ‘Say Something’ and ‘I Need U’, this proves that revivalists like Norris really can recreate magic.
