Are Fixers the new MGMT? After the American psychedelic-electronic rock duo’s second album spectacularly stiffed (clue: no songs), there’s room for another outfit with big songs and big ideas to break through. Fixers – a new five-piece experimental pop act from Oxford – have what it takes to enter the fray. Opening track ‘Majesties Ranch’ and ‘Floating Up’ sound like Electric Feel singer Andrew VanWyngarden jamming with Animal Collective, while ‘Iron Deer Dream’ brilliantly channels and updates ‘Smile’-era Brian Wilson. ‘Alexandra’, meanwhile, is as dreamy and majestic as ‘My Girls’. Your favourite new band may well have arrived.
