After two decades in dance music, it takes a lot to get DJ/producer/NRK boss Nick Harris excited. But Yorkshire-raised, Berlin-based producer Ed Davenport has done just that. Davenport’s debut for Harris’s label is a window into his world of deep and lush techno, wobbling, bass-fuelled house and digi-funk. Singles ‘New Yorkshire’ and ‘More Red Lights’ appear in remixed form; the latter, a shimmering slab of Garnier-style melodic techno, really shines. Even better is ‘Djungel Alliance’. As bass synths crush the chest like paving slabs, a carnival kicks off with a fierce electro-samba rhythm. Here’s a young man with ‘The Future!’ stamped across his knuckles.
