Chris Coco has been interacting creatively with dance music since day one, from early Warp Records artist to Robbie Williams tour DJ to Radio 1 presenter, and more. When he and Pete Gooding appeared with the delicious chill-pop of ‘Believe’ last year on Nang, it was clear Coco was having a moment. It continues with ‘Freedom Street’ on his new label, an album filled with singers he’s nurtured, flying the Balearic flag high, coming on like a 70s Curtis Mayfield one moment (on ‘Word’) and ‘Screamadelica’ the next (‘My Desire’). Whether it’s luscious piano-led orchestration (‘Elton Dub’) or spaghetti western whistling (‘End of the World’), it’s ecstatically mellow, loved-up, sunshine music.
