Burnt Friedman is one of those unsung heroes of electronica with a huge discography you could easily get lost in – but he’s still making vital music too. This one is all about subtlety – deceptively simple grooves that sound like minimal techno constructed from real percussion instruments. If you listen closely, they are locked into odd grooves with patterns of three, five or nine beats instead of the standard four. Not a million miles from Shackleton, but without the feeling of doom, it draws you in then takes you to some strange and sometimes beautiful places.
