The untimely loss of Broadcast’s Trish Keenan in 2011, just as the duo’s retro electronica and psychedelia was really taking off, was a tragedy. There’s been talk of unreleased material Trish and partner James were working on prior to her death, and this is the first taste: a sound-track for Warp Films’ movie about madness, music and old Italian horror flicks. There are none of Trish’s vocals on these 39 short sketches, but it’s still vintage Broadcast. It’s a tribute to Ennio Morricone, Goblin and other Italian soundtrack dons, yet remains entirely fresh, and combines blissful beauty with utter terror without compromising either. A haunting memorial.
