Brackles’ previous releases have been a blend of clattering percussion, space-age melodies and flipped-out, low-end frequencies. Tracks like ‘6am El Gordos’ and ‘Take Me Home’ reveal a producer with a taste for warped riddims, so it’s a little surprising that his debut album is a summery explosion of UK funky that zings between sickly-sweet and ferociously upfront flavours. You won’t find much wonderful weirdness here, but you will be treated to a treasure trove of carnival house that will soundtrack a heatwave perfectly. Take your pick from smooth, low-slung vocal cuts like ‘Chasing Crazy’ and ‘Go Head’ or blazing, elasticated bangers like ‘I Can’t Wait’ and ‘Squarehead’. It’s kind of unexpected, but Brackles has created a sunny storm.
