Natasha Khan holds an awkward position in the left-of-centre female songstress stakes. Not as successful as the current queen, Florence, and not as revered as all time top dogs Björk and Kate Bush, she too often falls into that “I’ve read about her in The Guardian and must dig out a couple of her CDs” category. But third album ‘The Haunted Man’ could change all that. Lead single ‘Laura’ is the kind of song that gently pulls you to one side, sits you down and demands your undivided attention for all of its four-and-a-half minutes. ‘Winter Fields’ almost hits ‘Hounds Of Love’ levels of greatness, while ‘Lilies’ and ‘All Your Gold’ set the bar high from the off. If you’re not averse to a bit of melodrama, you’re in for a treat.
