Last night the first episode of DJ Hangouts aired on Mixmag TV.
We spoke to Richie Hawtin and Loco Dice live and direct from Washington DC, where the pair were preparing for the latest show on their CNTRL: Beyond EDM tour.
Hawtin and Dice have arranged a set of dates during which they give lectures by day and play DJ sets by night. Hawtin told Mixmag TV that it's an attempt to "go beyond the [North American] definition of EDM, which we feel is a little bit too tight," before explaining that the duo want the tour to "inspire, educate and entertain."
"[EDM] should be retitled EPM, electronic pop music," Hawtin went on to say. "That's basically what, especially over in North America, people are hearing," he added, "we want to throw away the D or the P and just introduce people to electronic music."
That's the kind of mission statement that underpins what Hawtin and Dice are currently doing.
Hawtin said: "We wanted to come over here, support this [EDM] expansion and show the kids what we're doing."
The pair went on to talk about how they're looking to introduce more people to their brand of underground dance music and also about their upcoming date in New York on Saturday. The lecture has been cancelled however the gig at Webster Hall will go on.
