The nominees for the Billboard Music Awards were announced today and new this year are a trio of of EDM awards including Top EDM Artist, Top EDM Song and Top EDM Album.
David Guetta, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia all earned Top EDM Artist nominations and all save for Harris are also up for Top EDM album, with Skrillex taking up two spots in that category, one for 'Bangarang' and the other for 'Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites'.
Harris makes up for the slight in the Top EDM Song category where he grabs two nominations, one for 'Feel So Close' and another for his Florence Welch collaboration 'Sweet Nothing'. Guetta and Sia’s 'Titanium', the Swedish House Mafia/Josh Martian team-up 'Don’t You Worry Child' and Baauer’s viral sensation 'Harlem Shake' round out the rest of the nominations.
Many EDM artists also earned nominations in the Top Dance categories, with Guetta earning a Top Dance Song nomination for 'Titanium', and Guetta, Skrillex and Deadmau5 all getting nominations for Top Dance Album. The three also earned nominations for Top Dance Artist, alongside Calvin Harris and Madonna, who is also up for Top Dance Album.
At the start of the year, Billboard began its first EDM chart.
