THE BIG QUESTIONS: YODA

Just ahead of his appearance at Soundwave Festival in Croatia, DJ Yoda answers our Big Questions.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I think I just wanted to have anything to do with music or movies.

What’s the worst club you’ve been to?
Wow - hard to pick out of so many! One place in Ireland springs to mind - purely on the basis of some dickhead putting poppers in the ventilation system.

What’s been your worst job?
Pizza Hut delivery. Although that was actually pretty good fun because we used to make mutant garlic bread in our spare time. I did some paparazzi work once and sat outside Kate Bush's house for four hours...that was pretty shit.

What are you obsessed with right now?
Moombahton, Action Bronson, Twitter and BBQ pulled pork.

And what do you hate right now?
Identikit auto-tuned R&B / trance. And croissants.

When and where were you at your happiest?
My long-term memory is shot, so I actually have no idea. The happiest point in recent memory was sitting on a beach in Australia about a month ago.

How do you describe what you do to someone who doesn’t know you?
Depends on their level of DJ literacy. To someone clued-up on music I say that I'm a hip-hop DJ, but I don't play much rap music. And I do the same with video. To my grandad, I just say I play very loud music to a lot of people on a Saturday night. He still can't get his head round the fact that I don't announce the names of the songs to the crowd!

Have you ever been arrested? And if so what for?
Certainly not! And I won't be until they make downloading free music a crime. They WHAT?!

What's the best record ever made?
'93 Til Infinity' by Souls of Mischief.

What’s the coolest thing in your house?
Close call between my Goonies lunch-box and my Twin Peaks playing cards.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever had?
A geezer from trance group Above & Beyond once told me that if I'm flying on a Boeing 747-E, I should always choose Seat 64D as it's the best one.

Who's your all-time hero and why?
DJ Q-Bert. I once read him say - "Give me any kind of record and I'll flip it - I'l make it work - McDonald's records, opera - whatever!"

What do you collect – apart form records?
Obscure, limited edition, American Breakfast Cereal.

What’s your vice?
See above. Currently limited edition Froot Loops with marshmallows.

Who was your first love and what happened?
I think she was called Chantelle. I tried to impress her by scoring pretty highly on the Sega OutRun arcade game.

What were you doing at 2pm last Sunday afternoon?
Taking my dog for a massive walk across Hampstead Heath.

What's your answer to everything?
105bpm.

On a scale of one to ten, how good are you in the sack?
I'd probably rate myself a 5. Is that the most honest answer you've ever had for this question?

What's your most prized possession that you've still got from when you were a kid?
My original Yoda toy- it begat the name DJ Yoda. Good use of the word "begat" there.

Have you ever had a homosexual experience?
I once had a colonic, which was pretty much akin to the same thing I should imagine.

What was your last treat for yourself?
You should treat yourself to one tiny present every day - whether it's a coffee, a snack, or just five minutes time to yourself. Today though, it was a Peanut Butter Twix.

What do you spend your money on?
Good quality food.

What's your drug of choice?
Caffeine. Boring, but true.

What can't you live without?
iTunes. iPhone. Apple products generally.

Do you have a recurring dream?
No, but last night I weirdly dreamt that I had a huge chicken in the fridge, then was confused when it wasn't there this morning.

What would you change about yourself if you could?
Nothing! Pretty happy with myself as I am, thanks. If anything, I would drop a foot size so I had better trainer choices.

What's the worst item of clothing you've ever worn?
Green suede Fila trainers in 1994. Or possibly my fluorescent yellow MTV hoody from the same era.

If you had a Tardis, what time would you go to?
The 1930s but I would have to be insanely rich and upper-class to make the most of it.

What’s your lamest claim to fame?
Got so many. I acted on stage as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company. I also sat next to the Arctic Monkeys at the airport last week.
