A young man was beaten to death after making a song request to a DJ at a party in India.

It's being reported that 22-year-old Rohit Bhardwaj attended the birthday celebration of a friend in the city of Gurgaon.

At some point in the night, Bhardwaj, who was in the second year of a Business Administration degree at the JIMS Institute in New Delhi, asked the DJ at the party to select a different style of music.

However, according to police, the DJ angrily declined and shortly after a violent brawl broke out as a number of allegedly intoxicated people began to attack Bhardwaj with hockey sticks, inflicting severe head trauma which led to his death. They also targeted one of his friends, who suffered minor injuries.

Deepak Bhardwaj, Rohit's father, was beaten unconscious by the attackers after he arrived at the scene and tried to intervene in the assault of his son. He sustained head injuries and collapsed after being pushed into a wall.

Inspector Babulal of the City police station announced: "We have registered a murder case and forensic teams have visited the spot."

Three DJs - Amit Kumar, Dhuru and Raju - have been arrested as suspects, with hockey sticks and the laptop used for DJing captured by the police to use as evidence. The party was hosted in a CCTV blind spot however so there is no footage of the attack.
