Permanent Vacation’s smart house and techno feels warmer, more ambitious and widescreen than many of their peers. Hearing it all in the same place, at the same sitting, on this round-up from the Munich label is further proof of that.

The first disc is melancholic in mood, led by the sprawling house and sighing synths of Lake People’s ‘Uneasy Hiding Places’. The cosseting chords and gentle acid details of Scottish producer Lord Of The Isles’ ‘301C Symphony’ provides another standout, while Phillip Lauer’s hammering and misasmic house cut ‘Ward’, from the second disc, is just as good.
