UK legal high ban to be announced tomorrow
The blanket ban aims to close down 250 legal high shops in the UK
The Home Office is to draw up plans of a legal highs ban in the UK, with it officially being announced at the Queen's Speech tomorrow.
The government plans a complete ban on products, also known as new psychoactive substances (NPS), which could see the closure of 250 shops which sell them.
At the moment, manufacturers can make slight chemical alterations to products if something is banned, but a blanket ban would mean suppliers would have to prove the safety of the product before it can go on sale.
The decision comes off the back off research by the Centre For Social Justice think-tank last year, which said there were 97 legal high-caused deaths in 2012.
