Original Trainspotting cast to return for sequel

We all knew it was back on, but now we've got confirmation that work on a follow-up to Trainspotting will commence next year with the main cast members all onboard.

Yep, Ewan McGregor (pictured), Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle are all falling back into the roles of Renton, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie for a film sequel we're all clucking for, just as the characters were clucking for a fix in the 1996 original.

Returning director Danny Boyle commented that the completed script was "terrific" back in September and and he's now gone into some detail about what we can expect when it's released in spring 2017.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: "It's been 20 years since we met these characters and John Hodge's screenplay brilliantly explores what's happened to them - and to us - in the intervening years."

Said to be an adaption of Irvine Welsh's novel Porno, the film will be set in Edinburgh ten years on from the original and Boyle's using the potential of people hating on it to ensure it isn't a flop, according to a Dazed Instagram post.

"Obviously it's worrying because people will kill us if we made a bad job of it. I will get absolutely crucified. But you have to thrive on that potential danger within it and if it feeds into you, you might get a decent film out of it, you know."

The film will be courtesy of Sony TriStar, which has the worldwide rights, with Figment Films, Decibel Films, Cloud Eight Films and Film4 also involved.
