Bob Moog's construction of the eponymous analog modular synthesizer was undoubtedly a game changer in the narrative of electronic music. With its more accessible size, the Moog synth was built for live performances and became a favored instrument of Giorgio Moroder, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and the famed 'Popcorn' track by Hot Butter.

In the spirit of Bob Moog's innovative creation, the festival hosts an annual contest, asking patrons to build their own instruments surrounding a given theme. This year's theme is the avant-art of 'circuit-bending', a style explored by Reed Ghazala in 1966.

Participants are expected to create and share the process of their creation and the final product, which will be showcased at this year's Moogfest. Along with a prized showcase, the grand prize honoree will also walk away with a Moog Sub 37, which has a lofty $1,579.00 retail tag.

Moogfest runs from May 19-22, and the last day of the festival is also the last day to enter the competition. Find more information about the contest here.
