Carl Cox has released a turtle into the sea.

The much-loved UK DJ is raising awareness of the dangers that marine life faces and earlier this month took a trip to Aquarium Cap Blanc in Ibiza to free a turtle that had nearly lost its life.

Affectionately named 'Coxy',the turtle had been found tangled in plastic off the coast of San Antonio by locals who were sailing in the waters there.

The aquarium, which is known as the Recovery Center for Marine Species and serves Ibiza and Formentera, was notified and duly looked after the turtle until it was back to full health and ready to go back into the ocean.

It was helped back into its natural habitat by Carl Cox, who is keen to make sure people enjoying Ibiza think twice before throwing litter onto beaches or into the sea.

"I´m honoured to help out," the veteran White Isle DJ said.

Furthermore, a statement on his Facebook profile reads: "A couple of weeks ago I helped release 'Coxy' the turtle back into the sea after he was found injured from being tangled up in offshore rubbish in Ibiza. Tidy up after yourselves people, let's look after our beautiful world!"

The Aquarium Cap Blanc features a natural cave with fresh, circulating sea water and a variety of different marine life.
