Who? Machinedrum, North Carolina-born and Berlin-based producer who flies across the many facets of bass music.
Why? Describing him as hard working is a bit of an understatement. Tunes under his Machinedrum moniker have appeared on Planet Mu and LuckyMe while his other projects Sepalcure (alongside Praveen) and Jets (alongside Jimmy Edgar) have become staples on Scuba's Hotflush and underground label Leisure System respectively. Then, as if that wasn't enough, there's Dream Continuum (alongside Om Unit). This high rate of output spans future garage, footwork, jungle, UK funky and r'n'b and has lead to Machinedrum garnering a cult following.
With a reputation for high class cuts and sold-out shows, it's no surprise that Machinedrum gets a lot of remix requests and now he's decided to drop a massive stash of unreleased reworks for free. They were all made in a five year period and cover the likes of Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Theophilus London and Phreshy. Released under the title of 'Nice Effort - Remixes 2005-2010' and weighing in at 14 tracks, this is something of a Machinedrum treasure trove. Mixmag has the exclusive download of the tunes, which you can grab below.
Of the remixes, Machinedrum said: "Hi friends, I present to you a compilation of remixes that I made between 2005 and 2010 of various artists that have either been rejected, unreleased or just straight up unfinished. Some were made for fun while others were for hire. Needless to say a lot of the mixdowns are, well, questionable. Either way, nice effort right?"
