REVIEW: PORNOGRAPHIC OPENING PARTY

After a rather filthy, but ridiculously successful first summer in Ibiza, Spanish house and techno label Pornographic Records have returned to the island for a second season.

On Wednesday night, Darren Emerson followed Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll on the decks, with both performers playing a chugging mix of big-room house and techno. Label owners Cristian Varela and Marco Bailey followed, with Varela unleashing a party pitched blend of funky, dark percussive techno, before Bailey swept into the booth and toughened things up even further, without losing any of the momentum that Varela had built up.

Wednesday nights at Eden are also notable for the live pornographic stage performance, which stars a posse of striking, silicon enlarged dancers who like to prowl the Eden stage, wearing nothing but towering heels and tiny iridescent nipple protectors. Obviously, the dancers are good friends; they have plenty in common, including their love of pump action sex torpedos and champagne, which they like to pour over their naked, glistening bodies, and all to a backdrop of Varela and his intelligent tribal techno beats.

Not quite as glamourous as the Manumissions of yesteryear, but undoubtedly a fantastic formula for Ibiza popularity.
