Mixmag’s Balearic tech-house team have run down to DC-10’s new Thursday night Hot Creations label gig, Paradise, on a number of occasions this season, and each time we’ve found the White Isles southern most venue absolutely rammed.
The early season Opening Party with Jones and Art Department was so lashed with oomph that many of the 2,000 plus attendees are still dancing now. Then, on July 26, Jamie Jones was backed up nicely by Maceo Plex, who maintained a loose and lively tech-house vibe throughout the duration of the gig.
But what does it all mean? Not so long ago, Cocoon and Cox were the only ‘Real-Deal’ players playing educated techo beats here in Ibiza. This season, however, the lie of the land has been altered somewhat. You’ll find a whole host of new nights at DC-10 and Sankeys banging out underground 4/4 beats, whilst Elrow at Privilege, Music-On at Amnesia, Enter at Space and the Pornographic and Toolroom label nights at Eden and Space, respectively, are all busy promoting techy sounds.
All of which is great news for hardened stompers, but ultimately, with so many tech-house jamborees going off around the island, something, surely, will have to give. Paradise, however, is one night that will endure, chiefly because their ‘new-wave’ roster is perfectly pitched to pull in contemporary minded punters. A pretty blonde girl wearing a taut pink leotard and sporting Adidas hi-tops and boasting a huge pair of hardened nipples summed our attitude perfectly when she leapt at us at 5am in the morning, screaming: “Jamie Jones is sooooooo fuuuucking hot right now!”
