When asked to score a restored copy of the first ever film blockbuster, George Méliès’ 14-minute La Voyage Dane La Lune (‘A Trip To The Moon’, 1902), Air expanded on it to produce their seventh album. And it grooves, from the Moog pop of ‘Parade’ to the spooky, discordant ‘Who Am I Now’, featuring Au Revoir Simone on vocals; ‘Cosmic Trip’, a title only Air could get away with, sounds like Jean-Michel Jarre having a prog-funk freak-out. Most electronic acts, when asked to sound-track a film, dump pop sensibility in favour of atmospherics, but we’re happy to report that, as astute players for over a decade, Air have gone the other way: to the moon and back.
