These are the tracks that made Distortion Festival killer

We made the trip to Copenhagen for Distortion Festival and here's a rundown of the tunes that made it so damn good

Thinking of going to Copenhagen? Why not wait until next year's Distortion?

What more could you want? You get four days of partying, starting with the mass street parties (apparently 100,000 show their faces each day) in Nørrebro and Vesterbro. Think Copenhagen's Notting Hill Carnival - mega soundsystems dotted all over the place, spewing out everything from house and dancehall to techno and jazz. Yeah, they might finish at 10pm, but it's not as if you haven't got a platter of afterparties (Distortion Club) to choose from. Culture Box, Rust and Langebro (an underground car park alongside the Københavns Havn) were just a few of the venues this year, with Jeff Mills, Jackmaster, Tale Of Us, Boys Noize, DJ Stingray and Skepta among those on the menu.

What better way to finish it off? A two-day party - Distortion Ø - at Refshaleøen, an abandoned shipyard in Copenhagen's harbour. Trust us when we say it's a banging location, especially when you look over the waterfront as the sun rears its head in the early hours. Oneman, Tom Trago, Bok Bok, Jimmy Edgar, Axel Boman and DJ Koze all played over the two days, so you can see Distortion doesn't mess around with its programming. Plus, the kebabs there were fucking delicious.

Here's ten tunes we plucked out from over the week.

French Fries 'Bug Noticed'

No messing from Bok Bok with this one. Before hooking up with Tom Trago for a back-to-back later in the night on Distortion Ø's opening night, the Night Slugs man got behind the decks on his own. He fired out a bunch of erratic club cuts as usual, with this brutal ClekClekBoom release one of them.

Cashmere Cat feat Ariana Grande 'Adore' (MssingNo remix)

What. A. Banger. We'd been smashing this one out ever since MssingNo, the London producer who's behind tracks like 'XE2' and 'Skeezers' on Goon Club Allstars, put it up for free on his SoundCloud. No surprise that it went off when Cashmere Cat dropped it in the Red Bull Climbing Arena on Distortion Ø's Friday night, then.

Skepta 'Shutdown'

Drawn in as a late replacement for Swedish rapper Yung Lean, the man of the moment most definitely shut it down with his show in an underground car park near the city's Langebro bridge. So much so that he banged this one out three times, leading to the barriers being shoved to the floor and the stage being mauled each and every time. Check his Instagram vid for proof.

Rae Sremmurd 'No Type' (Gianni Lee x Hi$to remix)

Once you've heard this remix, the original kind of saunters by like a tame lion cub. Oneman took care of the final slot in the Climbing Arena on Friday night and, figuratively speaking, made sure he tore the very high roof off with this cannon from the Philadelphia and Baltimore boys.

Boo Williams 'Teckno Drome'

One of many diamond tunes from Tom Trago and Bok Bok's back-to-back set in the Membrane Tent at Distortion Ø. Smooth like silk, sweet like candy and groovier than Austin Powers. Don't let the title fool you, what you get with this is some classic-sounding Chicago house.

Larry Heard presents Mr White 'The Sun Can't Compare'

Bar a few other tunes in between, Tom Trago and Bok Bok followed the above with this dreamy cut from Larry Heard. Seeing as they were bringing the tent to a close on the Friday, lush, cruising tunes like this were perfect. You can't really go wrong with this one, to be fair.

Brodinski 'Hector' feat Bricc Baby Shitro

You could say the French Bromance boss had a tough act to follow after a bunch of rowdy Danes went nuts to DJ Er Du Dum Eller Hvard at the Container Colosseum on Saturday. Nothing he couldn't handle, though, as he made his way through debut album 'Brava'. This hazardous techno weirdo ensured things weren't so contained anymore.

Cos-Ber-Zam 'Ne Noya' (Daphni Mix)

We'll admit it. We probably only heard this 'cause we wanted to check out what Elijah Wood (yeah, Frodo Baggins) had in his locker as he played alongside Wooden Wisdom partner Zach Cowie and DJ Fitz. In between sparking up fags and hyping the crowd on the mic, the Lord of the Rings man spun some wax and it turns out he's got a rather fine taste. Cosmic feelings in full swing with this Daphni rework of West Africans Cos-Ber-Zam.

DJ Deeon '2 B Free'

You're partying on a disused shipyard, it's starting to get light and Soul Clap decide to introduce this funky Dancemania cut (recently re-released on Numbers) straight from '97. Cue mass elation and recital of those sugar sweet "no, no, no, no, no" lyrics. Probably one of the highlights of the whole five days of the festival, let alone just the best tunes. Nice one, Deeon.

Jovonn 'Flutes (165th Street Mix)'

Yep, another from Soul Clap's set but this one's too much of a gem to leave out. Nearly 25-years-old, this provided a few minutes of proper jazzy swagger and made sure the legs carried on moving right 'til the very end. And who doesn't love a flute?
