Take a trip with 11 rave clips
Down the rabbit hole we go...
Everything was better back in the day, right?!
Well, maybe not. But it's worth double checking how things did go down decades ago every once in a while. You know, just for that warm, smudgy, nostalgic glow.
Who wouldn't get psyched to go partying at the weekend by archival footage of a young Carl Cox absolutely smashing three decks to bits or a full Bagley's going bug-eyed mental one New Year's Eve.
This is basically the Jamie xx album but in grainey, blown-out Youtube footage mode. You get to see Guetta like you've never seen him before, too.
Bagley's goes off
Straight back to '96 with this NYE footage taken from beloved London club Bagley's. The King Cross venue has gone down in UK dance music history and was one of a number of clubs that made the area a nightlife hotspot before the forces of gentrification swept them into the annals of time. If you like the above, as well as strobe-lit clips like this, but want a bit more emotion, try taking your older cousin or wayward aunty out for a pint because everyone of a certain age and calibre has a Bagley's story to tell.

The Prodigy rep Essex
Got five minutes? Get stuck into this mini-doc about the Essex rave scene, starring a fresh-faced The Prodigy.
From '92, it features a bonkers soundtrack and the legendary rave unit before they became super old, jaded and unbothered about making music at all – definitely one to rekindle the fire in your belly if you've become a bit dissatisfied with your heroes of late.

Carl Cox demolishing a three-deck mix
King Coxy dominates Ibiza every summer and hosts stage takeovers at festivals all over the globe. He's one of dance music's most loved characters and his love for the scene is infectious.
How did he get to where he is today, then? Well, take it back to '95 and watch him dominate a three-deck mix, blending breakneck techno like nobody's business. Proper bulletproof stuff and a word of warning to the new kids: you ain't gonna become a legend by only pressing play.

David Guetta on the Space Terrace
Guetta was a badlad back in the day and this is evidenced in this slice of footage from the Space Terrace during the late 90s. The Frenchman is in full control of his records and his people, with a rampant Ibiza crowd going batshit crazy for his selections. Worth a watch to see David at full force and also to check the Terrace at its finest, with sunlight, fancy dress and beaming faces all round.
Amnesia going ham
Want more late 90s Beefa footage? Here's Amnesia during the time of superstar DJs and superclubs. Epic in scale. Makes you wish you were there, huh?!
Jeff Mills' debut performance in Belgium
When we feel depressed or longed out by life we get the headphones on, ramp up the volume and submit ourselves to gale force Mills. It gets rid of all that negative energy in about 37 seconds.
His multi-deck sessions are somewhat historic and here he is detonating fast 'n' furious techno during his debut performance in Belgium. People are still recovering, according to local reports.
The second coming of Christ aka Sven Väth at Love Parade
It's the turn of the millenium and Sven Väth – who will in time become known as the Pappa, such is the velocity of his greatness – is turning in the set of his life at the Love Parade in Berlin. People are doing backflips, light splays across the night sky and Sven is at one with the records he's playing, channelling energy direct into every limb that flails before him.
The man lives to DJ. Here he is during one of his peak moments.
Wiley and Dizzee back in the day
The levels achieved in this short clip of Wiley and Dizzee's classic 2002 Sidewinder performance threaten to bust right off the scale.
Both take to the stage as young lyricists bursting with energy and creativity and once they get warmed up the reloads and mad crowd cheers start flowing. Goosebump-inducing stuff.
Wiley would go on to start the Eskimo Dance, immortalised in this fun reloads compilation.
The Hacienda in all its glory
No trip down nostalgia lane would be complete without the pride of Manchester... the Hacienda. Bask in all its glory. Then replay the video and bask again. Repeat until you attain acid house bliss.
Paradise Garage closing
Here's footage from the last night of one of the greatest clubs the world has ever known.
Fantazia wreckheads remind us why it's great to be alive
And here's footage of a New Year's Day after a huge Fantazia rave in the early '90s, when acid house in the UK was at a high (no pun intended). A couple revellers in this just won't stop dancing, even when the music's done, reminding us all why we fucking love dance music in the first place.
