Roosevelt
Winning early recognition as a resident at Kompakt’s Total Confusion party in Cologne, Roosevelt, aka Marius Lauber (pictured above), saw first-hand the connections dance music forms between audiences. So he began blending Balearic beats with electro-pop– and now he’s ready to release his debut. From the bongo bounce of ‘Wake Up’ to the hazy ‘Fever’, it’s full of smooth, synth-laden summer anthems. Though influenced by New Order, Todd Terje and Metronomy, Roosevelt’s deep grooves with infectious vocal melodies are all his own.
‘Roosevelt’ is ‘out now on Greco-Roman/City Slang
Rushmore
Cardiff-raised Rushmore is the multi-talented man behind the Trax Couture music imprint, fashion label and streetwear fanzine. The label has released a string of fiery, club-primed EPs that work in cues from US ghetto house, UK funky and everything in between. He spent the past four years running the House Of Trax party alongside Fools in London which grew to be one of the city’s most vibrant nights out. All these disparate influences are present on his mind-bending, innovative forthcoming debut album, ‘Ours After’.
‘Ours After’ is out on Trax Couture on July 29
Jacky
Growing up in East Africa, Jacky developed a passion for drumming, before deciding to turn music into a career. Since then, the Newcastle-born, London-based artist has been perfecting his style of walloping house. Last year saw his first release, ‘Diskotek’, land on Elrow, and he’s lining up his next EP on another well-respected Spanish label, Roush. As well as running Red Lunar Records, Jacky will be checking into Manchester Sankeys for a series of free events over the summer with his thumping, big-room house.
Jacky & Friends play Sankeys Manchester on August 25
Solardo
Solardo are charging through 2016 at some speed. Manchester-based Mark Richards and James Eliot have been smashing out bass-driven, acid-infused house and techno: ‘Give It To You’ and ‘Acid Rocks’ are essential. Coming up, ‘Phone Jacker’, on VIVa, is a punchy tech-house groover; ‘Pumped On Acid’, on Danny Howard’s Nothing Else Matters, is a main-room damager and their remix for Secondcity is a lasers-blazing acid vibe. There’s a Hot Creations EP too, and a collab with Skream in the pipeline.
Solardo play Ministry of Sound, London on July 16
Quavius
Galcher Lustwerk is one of the most original talents to emerge from house music in the past few years, and via his Lustwerk Music imprint he’s been introducing us to laid-back sounds of a similar ilk. Next up is Florida-based Quavius who drops an eight-track EP this month, and has teased us with several tracks on SoundCloud. ‘Love The Way’ combines sampled speech, r’n’b beats and soft electronics to create one of the most tantalising tracks we’ve heard all year; previous efforts draw on breakbeat, d’n’b and key-heavy melodies.
‘Quavius’ is out July 18 on Lustwerk
Sky H1
SKY H1 constructs sleek and emotive sound-scapes influenced by ambient, grime, experimental and bass. ‘All I Ever’, on Bala Club’s recent compilation, stands out as one the year’s most gorgeous cuts, combining warm electronica with ethereal vocals. Her latest EP ‘Motion’ just arrived on Pan sub-label Codes and was an Album of the Month in our June issue – with good reason. It explores themes of grief and loss, rooting a mesh of magical synths and sparse percussive lines within ground-shaking bass. Stirring stuff.
