Joy Division voted 'most iconic artwork'
Joy Division have won an online poll to find the most iconic album artwork. Their cover for Unknown Pleasures beat The Stone Roses, The Beatles, The Smiths and Lez Zeppelin (2 - 5 in the poll respectively) to claim the top spot.
The image on Unknown Pleasures comes from an edition of the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy. It presents exactly 100 successive pulses from the first pulsar discovered.
Peter Hook, Joy Division bassist and Mixmag covermount fan said "The main thing in our lives at that time was getting our music released anyway we could. We weren't interested in being on the cover, we wanted to do things in a different way, we were going to be different."
